How To Change The World.

Step 1: Have a heart. Know that people are hurting, struggling, and dying, unnecessarily all over the world.

Step 2: Open your eyes. It’s everywhere. It’s children, adults, men, women, animals, the environment… you name it.

Step 3: Remember that you can do something. You can be more environmentally friendly. You can fundraise. You can simply hug a child and remind them that they are loved.

Step 4: Actually GO DO SOMETHING.

It’s amazing how heavy this has been on my heart lately. A few months ago, it really hit me that I want my life, my career, my future, to revolve around helping others. And it blows my mind, the options and ideas that have been presented to me lately.

Here are some futures that I am considering – that you might like to support. Do your part. Don’t like any of these? Go start your own! Things are only accomplished when people step up and start a movement.

HALFunited

“The name HALF United stems from the idea that when you purchase their products that’s only HALF of what you’re doing- YOU are also personally feeding a child in need. At HALF our main goal is to unite our family, our friends, and supporters to peacefully protest global hunger. We realize none of us can eradicate hunger alone, but United there’s nothing we cannot accomplish.” They are changing the world, by feeding the world.

(I took that straight from their website, because I couldn’t say it better myself!)

HALF is based right here in Wilmington, NC

FUMC Missions In Nicaragua

http://fumcmissionsinnicaragua.com/

My LauraBell is in charge of this one.
Help a child in need. They have collected thousands of pairs of shoes to give to children. They work in orphanages, and most importantly, they LOVE. Laura and her team travel to Nicaragua a few times each year to change the world by loving children.

Charity: Water

http://www.charitywater.org

“Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren’t strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses.

90% of the 30,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions are of children under five years old. Many of these diseases are preventable. The UN predicts that one tenth of the global disease burden can be prevented simply by improving water supply and sanitation.”

(Again, it’s their own mission that they wrote themselves… you try to say it better.)

The American Cancer Society

http://www.cancer.org

The ACS fundraises, spreads awareness, and educates the country about cancer. All money raised goes directly to the fight. They help people get well, stay well, and find cures. Cancer is a leading cause of death throughout the world. They are changing the world by curing this terrible disease.

TOMS

http://www.toms.com

For every pair of shoes they sell, TOMS gives a pair to a child in need. Did you know that kids can’t go to school without shoes? Did you know that in poor countries in Africa, you can get diseases by walking barefoot in the dirty soil? TOMS is changing the world by putting shoes on kids’ feet. (And by being one of the first large companies to run on a motto of changing the world – GO TOMS!)
