the tunes that keep you going

I hate running. HATE IT. More than almost anything else. But I do love the feeling of accomplishment you get when you are finished with a good run.

I also thoroughly enjoy dancing first thing in the morning.

I wouldn’t have gotten through my first 5k without my friend Kasey. And the friendly neighbors that shot all the runners with water guns. That was fun!

But when running alone, or even walking on the treadmill at work on lunch break, I’ve got to have a good list of music to keep me going! Mostly because when I’m the only one in the gym on lunch break, I can sing along, and that’s fun too!

And not just for running… need to get pumped up for your day in the morning?

Here’s what I enjoy on iTunes, or the Pandora App! As well as a few other songs I wish I had on iTunes…. I’ll be buying those soon. (Ignore the fact that a lot of these songs are old – you can’t deny that they make you want to dance…)

  1. Senorita Justin Timberlake
  2. Happy Pharell Williams

Please help Laura and Ray get to Nicaragua!

Laura and Ray need your help!!

Every year, our other halves, Laura and Ray, travel to Nicaragua on a missions trip with their home church. They do it all – feeding kids, hanging out at orphanages, building relationships with the people of Nueva Vida – a town built on a landfill.

These two LOVE Nicaragua. Their hearts are built around it. Their lives revolve around it.

But getting there is tough.

This year their trip is $1400 per person, or $2800 altogether.

That’s expensive!!

If you are able, I know that any financial support they get is GREATLY appreciated. Your help won’t just get them there, it will help them continue their relationships and mission work in the lives of kids.

If you are interested in donating to their trip, you can mail a check made payable to “OOTBWC” (Their church is called Out of The Box Worship Center) – and mail it to PO Box 1082 Boone, NC 28607. Please put “Nica – Ray and Laura” in the memo line!

Thanks so much for considering my best friends in your charitable contributions! They will be so grateful!!

Just a laugh for your Friday!

Only because so many of our friends are having kids now, I can’t wait for the gender reveals for all of your second kids!

Baby gender reveal gone awful!! But so hilarious!

Favorite Things Friday!

These are a few of my favorite things!

love Pottery Barn! Everything about it! This might be based off the fact that theres this underlying nautical feel to every piece in their collection. Your home doesn’t have to be all anchors and sails to feel nautical. Sometimes its just the way the wood looks, or the way the colors blend.

Top left – boat shaped cooler. Marshall wants to do this for our Engagement party, with the canoe. I love it!

Top middle – Coat hooks! Obviously ocean inspired!

Top right – my favorite coat hooks! And you wouldn’t know these were beachy, unless you know your way around a boat dock!

Bottom left – Salt and pepper shakers! Way too cute.

Bottom right – more coat hooks. We don’t even wear coats here… and I keep finding coat hooks I like. Oh well – for the dog leashes maybe?

Well I don’t know about you, but I just can’t get enough of anything J.Crew or Vineyard Vines!

A few years ago, I bought 1 pair of J.Crew blue jean shorts. I wore these for YEARS. This year I finally decided to replace them – they were looking pretty ratty. So at the J.Crew outlet at Myrtle Beach, I found these blue jean shorts! And they were 2/$49.95.

The shirt is Shep Shirt, by Vineyard Vines. These are amazing. Thicker than a long sleeve shirt but not quite a sweatshirt, the Shep is an anytime, anywhere go-to. And I love a good ball-cap.

Otherwise I live in my Rainbow flops, and carry my canvas tote everywhere I go! You can find these in any size and color at Land’s End!

Why Pinterest isn’t a complete waste of time.

Alright, it’s true. Pinterest really is a time-sucker. We’ve all seen the memes that so creatively make fun of all the wives and mothers that spend hours on Pinterest; and the funny thing is… these jokes are all ON PINTEREST!

Screen Shot 2014-03-24 at 6.48.14 PM

I mean what did wives and moms do before Pinterest? How did they know how to cook, or organize, or clean or even raise their children? Sound crazy? Well, welcome to 2014; where technology runs our lives, and we couldn’t get by without it.

Now I’m not saying that Pinterest is a bad thing… I am one of Pinterest’s biggest fans! And I’m definitely that young almost-wife that needs the recipe ideas and organizing tips and tricks. I spend hours at a time on Pinterest, evenings, weekends, all the time. The funny thing is that if you walked through my house right now, you’d see that we should actually be used as the “before” picture on most home organization articles.

Here’s a few rational thoughts about Pinterest and all it has to offer, and the reality of what actually happens.

Oh! How to organize a home office!
I don’t even have a home office.    #pinned
Oh look! The best salmon recipe on earth!
Allergic to seafood.  #pinnedanyway
The best colors to paint your house.
For that cottage on the beach I don’t live in? #oneday
A DIY Nautical Wedding.
GREAT! I’m getting married! I can actually use this! #SCORE
Handmade onesies!
No kids. Not pregnant. Not even married yet. #slowdownslugger
Awwww, puppies!!!
Adopt all the puppies. All the puppies need homes. #pinned

Really, probably 75% of the pins we pin, are useless. VERY awesome and helpful, but unrealistically applicable to our own lives. But one day, when you have that event planning business, that might be how you want to set up your home office; where you can eat your salmon lunch at a cute little coffee table with your chic grey walls decorated with pictures from that Nautical wedding, with your 11 new puppies by your side.

But at the end of the day, Pinterest serves a great purpose… inspiration. Maybe this pin isn’t applicable right now, but maybe if you pin it, one of your friends will see it and find it useful. Maybe if you pin the half-marathon training regimen you one day hope to complete, you will inspire someone to train for their first 5k.

All in all? Yes, pinterest is a massive time sucker. Useful, useless, inspiring, and unrealistic all at the same time. And I love it.

So pin on, pinners, pin on.
